FIXED: Blue Blink on netbook-launcher

After some time I realize an annoying Foresight Linux Mobile bug has been fixed.

Alex has asked me to lend her my netbook for a trip to Brussels, so I’m glad the machine will be full working (I’ll try the fix as soon as I get home, next Sunday).

I don’t use this netbook on regular basis, but I think foresight linux updates should be faster.

How to Play MP3 with Banshee in your Foresight Linux

One weak point of Foresight Linux is the almost inexistent documentation. Add to this fact a very bad searching feature in the package manager, and you got it: it’s hard to find how to play a simple MP3 with Banshee.

May be it’s because I’m used to aptitude and the high standards of the Ubuntu’s documentation, but every time I need to install something with conary… it’s a nightmare.

After some googling I’ve realized that the gstreamer plugins are packaged as gst-plugin-* (you won’t find them searching for gstreamer plugin; d’oh!). With following command, you’ll be able to play MP3 files:

$ sudo conary update gst-plugins-ugly

I’ve recommended Foresight Linux Mobile to some notebook users, but I’m starting to think Foresight Linux isn’t ready yet.

Update: I’ve added an entry in the FAQ.

Blue Blink on netbook-launcher

It’s the only issue that prevents Foresight Linux Mobile 1.1 from being perfect.

Dear lazyweb, there’s a workaround for this? I’m out of ideas after one day trying different xorg configurations.

Foresight Linux Mobile and Acer Aspire One 110L

I’m using Foresight Linux Mobile in my Acer Aspire One 110L and I’m very satisfied with it.

It has supports out of the box around the 90% of the hardware (the memory card reader is the weak point), and comes with Ubuntu Netbook Remix as default desktop.

It needs some tweaking to have it confortable (DPI, spanish keyboard, wireless led), but there’s one point that it’s making me think about moving to another distribution: its package manager can’t do a ‘updateall’ with just 512MB of RAM.

Finally I decided to install from the ground the shiny new 1.1 release, but this isn’t a option for the future (man, I want to upgrade… I hate reinstalling).

After being upset for a while I started to think: this sucks, but there’s a better distro offering the same stuff out of the box?
